Term 1 Week 7
Hello Lovely peoples of tennis!
As always, this was an action packed week for the club, so let’s get to it this week’s edition of the Exec Blog.
There were some mixed results for the men’s team this week, with our heavenly 1’s swatting aside the mere mortals of Oxford. Onwards, we must put in a special mention to our skipper, Martin ‘the Chopper’ Slater, who put in a heroic performance to bring home the double, despite the 2’s falling to a hard fought 8-4 loss to Loughborough 2’s. The 3’s unfortunately went down 12-0 to the Old Foe, Coventry. However, I have no doubt this will be avenged with a good shoeing at Varsity later in the year, and by getting a job later in life.
The fierce competitors in the Ladies Team had a week off from BUCS, so instead decided to have a girl’s night out sampling the various cocktails around Leamington.
Our esteemed footy team, Tennis FC, went down 3-1 to a fairly strong History Soc team, with Pete leading the team in the absence of Captain Connor, with Ryan Argent nabbing us the breadstick with his terrific headed goal from 16 yards out, undoubtedly goal of the term, to make the score 2-1, but what turned out to be in vain as the team conceded the third goal on the counter attack whilst chasing an equaliser.
Wednesday night there was, of course, circle. For this week’s rendition of angle-less fun the theme was Rainbow Families, with the whole of the Copper Rooms following suit in support of the Kick Homophobia out of Sport Campaign. Purple was drunk, duct tape was administered, clothing was lost, and leather was worn. What a way to warm up the livers for Old Boyz next week! Also, if anyone finds Jacko’s holdall and/or dignity, he would quite like it back.
Social play was again conducted by our lovely Internal events dynamic duo, Hattie and Crawford. This was no normal week however, with not only a great piece of modern art made in social play on Wednesday with a Mannequin Challenge, but another spot on the coveted Tennis exec was opened in the form of a third internal events position. It has been hotly contested all week between Ollie ‘Make Tennis Great Again’ Heath and Ronak ‘Thankful Gayatri isn’t running this time’ Joshi, with the vote being held this weekend. Some say it is the biggest democratic decision of 2016, and may have the biggest consequences.
On Friday was Tour Launch, where this year’s Easter Tour location is revealed- easily one of the most anticipated nights of the year. Our resident smooth talker and Tour sec Timmo lead proceedings, dropping tantalizing hints as we made our way through Leamington’s various drinking holes, completing challenges (including Juan or two Spanish jokes) as we went. Finally it was revealed that this year we are returning to one of Tennis’s favourite Tour locations- Magaluf! So get your deposit in, this is one week of the year you do not want to miss.
We have another cracking week coming up, with the added excitement of the return of many big names- legends even- to the club for Old Boys next weekend. Be scared, be excited, be ready.
Lots of Love,
The Exec xoxoxo
