Term 3 Week 8
This week was a slightly quieter week, if there is such a
thing, for the University of Warwick Tennis Club. However, we
have finally seen the end of exams, which means that the
following weeks can only get better.
On the social side, we had two events this week, a
generations-themed Circle and Skool Dayz.
For Generations Circle, first years
dressed up as babies, second
years dressed up as teenagers
and third years dressed up as
pensioners. A notable casualty of
circle this week was Connor, who
“repeatedly fell off his chair” and had to be stopped from drinking at just 9pm before enjoying an hour to himself in the Copper Rooms toilets. Skool Dayz saw the return of a multitude of club legends from yester- year take part in all the favourite games, along with a new introduction of pegs, which ultimately backfired on the returning socials secs V and Jacko, seeing them pegged more than anyone else.
In terms of the summer tournament, we saw the end of Jonathon Ede’s run in the mixed singles event, with a return home apparently more important than his mouth- watering semi-final with Ryan Argent. Another notable occurrence is Clement’s surprising run to the semi-finals without having to pick up a racket. He got walkovers from Egor Brailovskiy, Ben Attle and Greg Bacon. An interesting semi-final awaits. For next week, the Men’s Doubles semi-finals look very interesting, with Jacko and mini-Jacko taking on Vartyank Puranjay and Martin Slater, as well as a possible matchup Pete and Imran (also through to the semi-finals without playing a match) against James Spence and a replacement for Jack Hipwood.
Furthermore, this week saw several members of tennis, take part in a charity hockey tournament that raised £348.50 for Cancer Research, Alzheimer’s Society and Papyrus. Special mention must go to Ronak for his determined,
yet ultimately clumsy, style of play resulting in "collisions" with
at least three female opposition players (see attached picture);
James Kraven for proving that even a stopped clock is right
twice a day; and Simmo and Ryan for actually having a modicum
Next week sees Tennis once again donning our finest costumes
for the Sports Ball as well as a trip to Birmingham for the
AEGON Classic. Stay tuned.
Love the exec xoxo
