Term 3 Week 7
This week, despite the current onslaught of exams, many brave UWTC members (probably those fortunate enough to have finished exams) soldiered their way through the weekly schedule of events.
We’re starting the week with last Sunday where 12 of members took on the daunting 10km Wolf Run course, raising a respectable £192.39 for Parkinson’s UK as of the time of writing (feel free to donate, follow the link at goo.gl/omuIQ6 :)
Special shout out to Ivan who, after his shock victory over Jamie Brown in the mixed singles tournament, completed the course first in a blistering 1 hour and 30 mins. One had to question if there were any
limits to his athletic
ability, with some
feats may only
have been possible
with performance enhancing substances. However,
UWTC’s mixed singles reigning champion seemed to
find the answer to that question with a crushing 6-0
In other Summer Tournament news, Jacko and Mini Jacko have become the first men’s doubles semi-finalists with a 6-2 6-2 victory over Dylan Smith and John Gilchrist. In mixed singles news, the mysterious Johnathan Ede continues his straight sets run with a victory of one of the tournament favourites Nikita. It’s still unknown what the man looks like with defeated opponents too traumatised to recall their matches. Some say that he has invented a new tennis stroke that is even technically superior to that used by us mortals, including the pro tour.
Wednesday saw the return of everyone’s favourite social, circle! This week saw the return of none other than Ivan, who directed circle with his bleach blonde counterpart Cam. Unfortunately, I, the “anonymous author”, may have little recollection of the event. I hear there was a high-profile attendee, none other than UWTC’s very own poster boy Nicolas Fremont. Thanks to the new addition of milk to our circle pints, I am still yet to make it through circle this year without the need of a so-called “break”.
Social play was a quiet affair this week with 12 members making the long trek to Westwood’s indoor courts; hopefully by next week numbers shall return with many finishing exams.
That’s all for this week, hope those of you who have finished exams are celebrating appropriately and I wish those yet to finish much luck.
