Term 2 Week 8
With elections less than 24 hours away this last week was a big week with every candidate doing all they can to secure some votes, whether it be campaigning during circle, excessive pint downing or letting a few girls have their way with your body. It has to be said I am very excited to see the result of all this tomorrow!
A big win for Warwick in Varsity last weekend meant a couple of days' break for everyone was truly deserved. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be this week as the men’s 1s were beaten 8-4 by UCL 1s and the women’s 2s lost 12-0 to Birmingham in the quarter finals of the Cup. The men’s 2s push for promotion against Birmingham has been rearranged for this week, come on boys!
Now to the social side of tennis and the internal events trials. The candidates were confirmed the night before and they each were tasked with running social play for half an hour. All in all each candidate showed they are a strong contender for the role and this vote will definitely be close. Ollie Edwards showed us how much better anything is when you include alcohol. Little Willey pretty much introduced controlled carnage with his new game which was a load of fun. Bazell then played waves, the game we all know and love and finally Kraven showed his creative side with a new game that has the potential to be a staple in any social play.
Moving on to later that evening it was none other than circle and Milan doing his best to prove to everyone why he should be next year's social sec. His gamble-writing alone should see him in good contention after his gamble got birthday boy Banszky up and walking around circle, pints being thrown at him from all angles. This left a very cold, broken, sad, defeated, humiliated, purple Banszky, but that’s the punishment for having your birthday on a Wednesday. Connor, Hayley and I stepped up to run circle for no reason really and had a truly amazing time, Ronak and Cameron showed everyone how it should be done and then we all ventured into the mystery that is Pop!
Thursday and Friday saw a lot of snow, everyone panicked and thought it was then end of the world as it was ‘March!’ so everyone canceled everything. While there was nothing to do in anyone’s lives as it had snowed, Jamie Hornsey and co decided to give it to the public to decide which vegetable is best in a series of daily knockout rounds. Which to be fair is more exciting than it sounds. Bookies favorite, potato, will be playing in the next few days so watch out for that one, also we understand that carrots haves sacked their manager after their surprise defeat to tomato.
The highlight of the week however was always going to be Saturday. After Milan’s efforts on Wednesday, three more social sec candidates were fired up and ready to take on probably one of the toughest circles to date. Rowdy corner was looking like it was many years ago and it was obvious that it would make the candidates lives hell. Battle started the circle off very strong, it involved Arjun with a bin over his head and Tommy with a pint over his head, both events very amusing to watch. Jaime Moss with, I think, a new haircut took on the old boys head-first and came out of the encounter reasonably unharmed, which is definitely an amazing achievement. Maddie Zulu was last up and showed everyone that she is definitely no push over, getting people to down a pint with just her looks! Skool Dayz was a mystery just like pop, Alex Reed strengthened his campaign for club shark meaning it’s all to play for in tomorrow’s elections. Good luck to everyone running, let’s do this!
