Term 2 Week 6
This week Warwick Tennis embraced the departure of most of the BA students and saw their most dedicated members rise through the ranks.
As Wednesday’s social play was sadly rained off,
we still had the excitement of circle to look
forward to, as 18 of Warwick Tennis’ finest
ventured over to the lower atrium of the Copper
Rooms to enjoy an ‘intimate circle.’ Highlights
include Lars (the BFG) and King Julien singing the
Deutsch National Anthem followed by Maddie Zulu
passionately enlightening us with the Zambian
National Anthem. We also saw another stand-off
with Athletics as they continued to challenge us as the rowdiest circlers! Fear not, tennis once again showed them why we are the best drinking society on campus with yet another boat race annihilation.
On Sunday, social returned indoors as well as several psychology students who apparently don’t have a reading week for some reason, meaning that Ryan could be joined by Annabel to provide entertainment for the regulars. There was also another rousing session of cardio tennis led by the ever enthusiastic Clement. Bitch Boy Bazell was amongst the participants after mistakenly thinking it was a ‘girls only’ session.
So what is there to look forward to next week? It’s Varsity week and kicking it all off of course is circle so be sure to wear as much Warwick stash as you can in support. We finish the week on Saturday where we stand on the balcony of Fortress Westwood and watch as our heroes demolish the feeble opposition, a must-see event!
Hope to see you all next week!

Bonus football report from Ryan:
It’s almost bringing me to tears now reliving the moments of Warwick Tennis FC’s recent encounter but for the completeness of this blog I will carry on. Econ Soc our potential next victim, spirits high after a big result previously against La French and a nice sunny day for once, it was looking hopeful that we’d win our first game this term. After hitting the post, a few glorious chances missed by 4th year student Pete Richards, and Heath spending most of the first half twiddling his thumbs in goal, going into the half time break with nothing to show for it was very disappointing but also uplifting as there was surely only one winner here and it would only be a matter of time.
And that’s exactly what it was, 10 minutes into the second half Pete, with a superb finish, puts tennis up 1-0. Econ rarely threatened and it was looking like, with 5 minutes left, that was going to be enough.
And it was ... until the ref gave them a goal for absolutely no reason, when a shot bounced off the post onto the line and was cleared away, and then in the last minute of the game didn’t allow us to take a corner because apparently that’s a thing and we ended up drawing 1-1! Absolutely LIVID! An inquiry has been put in about the referee as it was announced by William Hill just moments ago that a Warwick student fitting his description had gone into one of there stores and put a rogue 1-1 bet on this fixture. We will keep you updated as news comes in.
