Term 1 Week 5
Hi all, week 5 marked the halfway point of term 1. While still slightly quieter than the previous few weeks, there was still plenty going on in the tennis club.
Wednesday brought about some mixed results for our teams. With
our women 1s team losing bitterly in a difficult fixture to
Nottingham “seconds” (although apparently many of their players
played for their first previously this term). The men 3s pulled out a
valiant draw against Coventry 1s at home despite Battle breaking
all his strings in the warm up. Also at home, our 2s decimating
Nottingham 4s 10-2 and continuing to hold their place at the top of
midland 2A. The men 1s bitterly lost to Nottingham 2s away. Next
week our women 1s will be playing Nottingham 3rds away so we
wish them much luck with their fixture. Our women 2s shall be
playing Leicester at fortresses Westwood starting at 1:30pm
hopefully lots can come and support. Our men 1s shall be playing
Loughborough 3s away. Men 2s are at Bedfordshire in the cup and
our 3s will be playing at home against Oxford 2s in the cup.
This week Cam-Ron brought about a change to the usual 20+1
start with a game of Wimbledon to a slightly messy but still fun
circle. (Editor: "Don't tell me you were that drunk that early? We began with One Tennis Player").Not sure what happened in the rest of the circle but I have blurry memories of a couple of freshers following in my 7:45-shaped footsteps and some pints mixed with milk. Shout out to Jamie Brown for a legendary circle costume of shamed former member Hickson. There are rumours he will one day return to the copper rooms to show us all how not to drink. (Editor: "you have absolutely no leg to stand on"). For now rumour has it he may make a special appearance this weekend. (Editor: "Whaaatttt???).
Sunday saw a quiet and very cold social play, but with Connor and Ollie gone, the freshers got a chance to shine and actually play more than 10 seconds of bluff, maybe even an opportunity to win. Sunday also saw our dev squad and social players show up Birmingham and Leicester in style, perhaps they were confused by our ability to find 2 Lars’. Our dev team absolutely dominated winning all but 1 match and scoring 117 points out of a possible 120. Our social team won a hard fought 2nd place winning 90 points against Leicester's 89. Hopefully we can continue this great form away at Leicester and Birmingham and take home a giant
inflatable trophy that should be rightfully ours.

since I know nothing about anything that isn't
We conceded from a corner for the 5th time this
year. Then despite having a decent debut, Lars,
our new big fucking German, got beaten for pace,
so they scored again. Then when all hope seemed
lost, and with 15 minutes to go, up stepped
Connor. Freekick. 30 yards. Central. Eyes only for
goal. 3 step run up. One. Two. Three. Swerving,
dipping strike. Top bins. No chance. We pressed
and pressed for 15 minutes. Argent produced the save of the season from their keeper. Then Lars . Then Xavi. An epic game, and we woz robbed.
With that, we shall move into week 6 with many questions like will we ever have a circle without a game of 20+1 (Editor: "More like will we ever have a circle without chanting Back to School 8 times before the first break?"), will I ever survive a circle (probably not) and how many people have bought our beautiful new kit?
Lots of love from your most dedicated sort of exec member xoxoxoxoxo
