TERM 2 WEEK 9
As we’re nearing the end of term, the deadlines are piling up, which means one of two things depending on your perspective - either your hair starts falling out due to stress, or you can unwind after a long hard term. Or both, tbh!
Week 9 was a mammoth week in the life of Warwick Tennis. First up were elections, which turned into a 6 hour slog in the sweltering heat of OC1.06. The finishing time of midnight was enough to put some people off a post elections Kelsey’s, although remarkably a few hardy souls managed to go to Kasbah suitably buzzing from their marathon of watching speeches. Elections were fiercely contested, and for some of the positions up to 5 people ran and competitors were very close.
Congratulations to all those who won, as well as all those who ran unsuccessfully, everyone did an amazing job regardless. For some of you, there’s always next year!

Now on Wednesday, I woke up and the sun was streaming into my room through my curtains. Imagine my shock (and indeed most people’s), when Kraven posted that social play was off due to a bit of rain. Nevertheless, some of us saw through his laziness and decided to play anyway, during which approximately 2 mins of rain occurred. Further controversy took place during Friday’s edition of Rawger FederRaw, where Vlad and Lewis were the guests, as Willey shockingly revealed that Kraven had opened his door and said "I’m honestly looking for any excuse to cancel social play, I just have so much work”. A sad end to a legendary reign as an internal events secretary.
On the team front, the Men’s 2’s had an amazing match to draw 6-6 against Oxford 1’s, most notably David winning 6-3, 7-6 with his tiebreak going to 9. Women’s teams didn’t play this week, but the 1s have two more fixtures to play, needing to win only one to win Midlands 2B overall. On Sunday, the 1s play DMU, the final match for Alice and Grace representing Warwick University. If you’re still around, it’d be great if we could go there and cheer them on!
Wednesday’s circle theme was birthday circle, and luckily this coincided with our very own Claire Koster’s birthday. Everyone signed a lovely birthday card which was (luckily) kept intact during most of circle to present to Claire during the final hour - there was also a piñata involved!
Next week's theme is De Ja Vu De Ja Vu circle, where we can celebrate Ben and Maddie’s time as Social Secs by going as our favourite one of their themes. There's a post on the event showing what the past themes have been for your choosing - See you there!
On Thursday, we had our third annual awards dinner. The night ran smoothly until my disastrous attempt at a raffle. Apparently you’re meant to mix the raffle tickets beforehand??? This resulted in Abbie and Andy winning a combined 7 prizes at first #rigged? Nevertheless, it was a successful evening, with 205 pounds being raised for charity, and congratulations to the awards winners! Special thanks to Victoria House for hosting us, and their delicious 3 course meal; hope everyone enjoyed their options.
The next morning saw Club photos, where a surprisingly large turnout saw themselves either in Social Play, Men’s Team, Women’s Team and whole club photos. The photos turned out very well, have a look for yourselves if you don't believe us!
Week 10 will see Ben and Maddie’s final circle, Ollie and Kraven’s final social play (although unfortunately Ollie won’t be there), as well as a handover social for the new social secs - a bar crawl followed by Kasbah to round off the term before we all enjoy our hard earned breaks (or not).
Enjoy your last week everyone!
