TERM 2 WEEK 3
Week 3 was actually quite a quiet week in tennis, but still a cracking one nonetheless.
The women's teams got a week off this week as there were no matches for them. In fact, it was only the Men's 1s on this week, who battled Oxford 1s away in a tough set of matches, resulting in a combination of wins and losses.
Everyone’s second-favourite of the week, Social Play on Wednesday, was unfortunately called off due to ice on the courts rendering them unplayable. This obviously left lots of members wondering what to do with their free time; a couple of dedicated individuals headed straight to the library to work towards that first, others stayed in bed, however most headed to the Duck to kick-start pre-circle pints in preparation for the evening's ‘Doppelganger’ circle, in which members were required to dress as another member of UWTC, either past or present.
There were some all-time-classic costumes on show; Will Brewer drew attention all throughout the night because of his t-shirt of Bazell’s best quotes, including one that the social secs deemed unfit for public viewing so had to be crossed out - it really was not ideal. There was a fair few pictures of Sid, a few bushy Kraven beards and ‘that picture’ of Andy Berry returned as a live embodiment thanks to Ines. There were also several "Ben Battle" printouts, which were then shamefully removed as freshers realised his name isn't actually Battle. The circle was a big one and Pop was messy as per usual. Our social secs returned to their usual teamwork antics after a week off in Week 2, thereby ensuring that no-one could remember anything about what happened after, apart from Milan of course (all I'm saying is I heard it was a 2 v 1 outside Sicillians??).
Friday's radio show saw the wonderful duo Abbie and Kraven put in a big shift of chat and tennis trivia - give it a listen on the podcast shared on the group!
On Sunday, 12 of the clubs most committed members (and also Jamie Banszky), rocked up to the outdoor courts on one of the coldest days the world has ever seen (and still some rocked up in shorts and a t-shirt) for more Social Play madness. It’s safe to say that the temperature may have affected the quality of tennis on show and I’ll leave that there…
See you all in Week 4!
