On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
12 racketloners winning,
11 Gapey Jakeys,
10 Daniel Willeys hiding (behind a pole),
9 Berry's flaking,
8 Bazells chirpsing,
7 Kraven's noncing,
5 old boys returning,
4 golf clubs swinging,
3 Arjuns binning,
2 social plays freezing,
and one week 9 pride theme circling!
As always, week 9 was a busy one for Warwick Tennis. The week started proper on Wednesday with social play. As always, Jamie Armstrong caused multiple fatalities on the courts with his rash and erratic shots, and there was also the ever-present outrageous chat from numerous members of the club. The original circle theme was deemed 'too soon', and so we took advantage of Pride Week to have a Pride themed circle, which was extremely colourful, aided by Ben and Maddie generously covering almost everyone's hair with spray paint.
Circle ran smoothly enough, but rumour has it that certain members of UWTC are still searching for their tops after Abbie lobbed them halfway across the Copper Rooms after Baywatch...
Surprise surprise, the Women's teams absolutely smashed both their opponents again, with the 1s smashing Cambridge 2s, 10-2, stayed undefeated (of course) the term. The 2s were away and smashed Notts 5s with another 10-2 win. Both teams winning in the same week - huge. Captain Alice has these inspiring words about the women's team - ''this has been the best start to the season competitively and socially that Warwick Tennis has ever seen''. Keep it up girls!! As for the Men, whilst the 1s didn't play, the 2s drew 6-6 in a tight fixture away to Nottingham 3s, whilst the 3s were unlucky to go down 8-4 to Nottingham 4s. This week, the 1s are playing Nottingham 3s to get revenge, watch this space!
Following on from last week's Charity Mini tennis tournament for Old Boys weekend was the 2nd issue of the Racketlon. Tennis were seeking revenge for last year, where we lost out on first place to Table Tennis by 1 single point. Unfortunately, this year, we just weren't good enough, and we came dead last aha. Special shoutout goes to Berry for not turning up at all after a heavy Friday night, to Lewis for putting in a solid shift all day and covering for Berry, and to Arjun for organising the whole thing with the charity secs of Table Tennis, Squash and Badminton. Next year is our year!
Saturday evening saw the Team Meal in Spoons, which was well attended by both the Men's and Women's teams. Following Spoons, there were trips to Turtle Bay, McDonalds and Kelsey's before a rogue Saturday Smack. The week concluded with a very cold social play, nevertheless there was a surprisingly good turnout given the weather.
Next week sees the final social play of the term, the final circle of the term - no prizes for guessing the theme, and a Christmas meal with karaoke at the Old Lib on Thursday evening.
See you all then!!
