TERM 1 WEEK 7
So, Week 7 update!
Week 7 was Trans Awareness Week, and provided the exec with the opportunity to attend a workshop with various SU Officers to find out more on how to better present ourselves as a trans-inclusive club, and as inclusive as possible in general! This aim was not just for our club but for the whole university, so it was great seeing so many members from other sports execs present to discuss Trans awareness and inclusivity! Check out the Instagram page (@warwicktennis) to catch our post about Renée Richards, one of the world's first trans pro-athletes (and a tennis star)!
Team scores: Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be for our men's teams, as all three of them narrowly missed out on the win against their competitors (Oxford 1s, Nottingham 3s (H) and Notts Trent 1s respectively) . The women's 1s beat Nottingham 4s comfortably, however the 2s, after several extremely tight matches and excellent plays, just lost against Oxford 2s at home.
As always, Social play was the absolute highlight of everyone’s week. In support of Trans Awareness week, our exec wore rainbow wristbands (also ready for Pride Week in Week 9!!) and pronoun badges. The enthusiasm for bluff was unprecedented, points were won and points we lost, but this week's games were mostly used for people to discuss their last minute decisions on which vessels to take to circle.
What started out with big chat of things like boats and peppers being used, eventually all fell through later that evening as these big dreams couldn't be realised.
Onto the people's favourite part of the week, BYOV circle. Due to Zulu taking a well-earned (?) trip to Kenya for a week, circle was partly run by one of tennis’ famous deserters, a man now known more for swinging a club than a racket. There were definitely some interesting (terrible) choices of vessels from various corners of the circle. We had Clement drinking “water” out of a tennis ball bucket, and my personal favourite: the yard of ale glass from Will (how could you possibly think we wouldn’t make you do the full thing?). Word on the street is that the man himself carried the vessel to all 8 of his Thursday lectures and got selfies with his lecturers. Pics or it didn't happen??
Milan getting slightly too enthusiastic with gecko master was also a stand out moment! In case any of you don’t know who that is, I’m not too sure either as he never turns up to anything.
I don’t have much to say about after circle, I think people were having a good time? But I couldn’t really see because Lewis and Berry kept spraying purple in my eyeballs…
Next Week is THIS GIRL CAN week!! Keep an eye out for opportunities to get involved with several club initiatives around campus for gender equality in sports!
