TERM 1 WEEK 4
A very eventful week for the tennis club!
Firstly, a warm welcome to the freshers who joined us on Saturday and have now been officially adopted! * Week 4 begun with radio hosts; Grace, Tommy and Willey welcoming Milan as this week’s guest!
BUCS on Wednesday had both mens and womens 2s in action! The mens 2s had a 1:30 kick off against Nottingham. Strong effort was seen across the board although after some tough defeats, Nottingham took the overall win. The women 2s faced Birmingham 2s in a cup match! The team went 4 sets into doubles after a big hold from Rachael and a big win from Carlotta. Charlotte and Rachael as well as Ines and Carlotta both smashed doubles for 8-4 win! However, this week’s BUCS can’t be talked about without an honourable mention to Alice for baking highly anticipated OreoTM and CrunchieTM brownies! Of course, they were amazing.
Social play on Wednesday afternoon continued to uphold large numbers. New and old faces were welcomed before spare circling tickets being highly sought after! With all courts in action Kraven and Ollie took us through waves, bluff, around the world etc which gave everyone a chance to meet new people, make friends and play excellent tennis! To end Wednesday’s social play highlights a special mention goes to Jamie Armstrong who impressively hit a tennis ball straight into his own face. Skill is only given to those who are capable.
Due to circling tickets selling quickly, this week’s circle was cosier than 60+ we saw for Bring Your Own Fresher. Circle regulars as well as the freshers did not disappoint in showing us form that would only set them up for success at adoptions. Naturally, there were some exceptions. A spontaneous shotgun from Claire resulted in a Battle vs Zulu gin VK. Zulu prevailed. The fact that she was celebrating Zambia’s Independence Day may have contributed to Battle’s form during the race. Circle ended with wonderful staples such as Wonderwall and thankfully, no jumping off tables. Then again Bazell is yet to return to circle.
Adoptions. One of the biggest nights at the club. As expected, freshers were late to our 7:30pm meet at the church. Apparently “the bus set off late”. Definitely the wrong night for excuses. Once teams were formed and made their tasty beverages under supervision from the adoptions team, they were off. Many thanks to Kraven & Willey, Milan and Ollie for hosting our teams. At each house freshers and in some cases current members were given tasks to do in their teams. Ollie Heath was a friendly face who joined us from the church to Kelseys circle! Always great to have an old boy around. Without giving away too much about the events that occurred at the houses; one fresher experienced the chance to analyse the wood inside a cupboard while another was able to explore the craftsmanship of the tile laying inside of Milan’s bathroom (within 10 minutes). Once the clock hit 8:45 the teams were given chance to explore Leamington Spa through a list of pre-set challenges. Ollie Edwards was also MIA during this time.
Kelsey’s circle saw the end of the line for some members. Special commendation goes to Tess Askins who spent majority of her night crying because Lauren is so pretty. No better example of girl power! Eliminator and purple flowed but of course. As the teams were still required to sit together, it was very obvious who had more freshers. Nevertheless, like any other circle there was a rowdy corner which ensured they went above and beyond to show freshers how it’s done. Or shouldn’t be done. Luvbug followed after with all freshers being accounted for! Overall a successful night for tennis.
Sunday’s match-play and social play went on as planned. Even though it was obvious most were knackered members did not let Saturday night stop them from enjoying either.
Dom tour is now only a weekend away we look forward to hearing great news from both Jamie Moss and Jamie Brown about their mini bus driving tests. If you are interested in going on the Domestic tour message Jamie Brown. Merchandise will be available. Speaking of merchandise, the kit shop is now closed. We hope those who were able to “cop” merch are excited! There is of course no better merchandise than UWTC merchandise.
Wishing you a Spook-tacular Halloween week,
Your social secs xox
*freshers who were not able to make adoptions, you now have to wait until next year.
