TERM 1 WEEK 1
After a very free and enjoyable week 0, week 1 brought us all back to reality with lectures and seminars imposing themselves upon our calendars. However, that did not seem to hamper the multiple activities that we engaged in over the week.
Team trials kept both captains and team members very busy over the week. Congratulations to all that made it and good luck for the coming season! If you did not, no worries! There are still plenty of other ways that you can play tennis competitively and socially through the tennis club.
On Wednesday, we had another social play taster. It was great to see so many of you rock up. Ollie and Kraven handled the session very well; despite some mix ups with the amount of court time that we had (Sorry about that!)
Wednesday also saw the return of circle and pop. Prior to the event, we had a couple of fresh come to meet the exec at Terrace Bar. While this event won’t happen again, some members of Warwick tennis do tend to visit the Duck and Terrace Bar prior to circle (and post-social play) every week, so if you’d like to meet some people pre-circle or get in some pre-circle pints, they will be around.
I am glad to say Ben and Maddie ran an excellent circle. Multiple members of Warwick tennis took part in a pint video challenge prior to the event, which extended all the way to Will Tyrell in Australia, contributing to the hype that preceded the biggest event of each week. With tickets being sold later this year, we saw a stronger contingent of freshers managing to get involved as well. Significant events involve purple angels courtesy of Clement and Jamie, and Tayden’s night being hampered by being the last in gecko master. Looking forward to next week’s Hawaiian theme!
On Sunday, we had another social play taster session. Thankfully, the arrival of several exhausted members of tennis (as multiple past and present Warwick tennis members decided to have their birthdays on Saturday) did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm of everyone else. Clement deserves a special mention, as he handled a massive beginners’ court all by himself.
This was followed up by a casual dinner at the Duck, our first social event of the term (barring circle of course). With Ben and Claire managing to hog a decent number of tables and chairs, a section of Warwick tennis filled the restaurant and had a pretty decent meal, despite the significant disappointment that was brought upon by them running out of Fish and Chips, though that may have been just me.
We’ve really enjoyed having each and every one of you at our social play sessions and circling over the week, and would love to see you again!
There is so much to look forward to next week! There will be a Hawaiian themed circle as previously mentioned. We will have our first matchplay session on the Sunday at 4pm. BUCS also starts with both women’s teams on action at home. Get to the tennis centre between 11.30 and 5.30 for the first taste of BUCS tennis this year!
That’s all from me.
Your Exec :)
