TERM 1 WEEK 0
So, what happened in the life of tennis during Warwick’s very first week 0 (praise the lord it’s finally happened)??? We can start with the Saturday, with many new faces moving in, it was time for our fine exec to have our first meeting of the year.
Monday saw both the men’s team start their preseason training and the women commence their second week. Men’s team training inevitably descended into dingles, while looking across fortress Westwood one could see women’s captain Alice Lovatt putting the girls through their paces and doing some real drills.
Wednesday: As usual, sports fair was ram packed. It was great meeting so many of you and tell you all why the tennis club is the best club on campus. Hopefully we’ll see lots of you still around in a couple weeks’ time. Also shout out to all of you who had to click on about 50 fire hydrants to sign up for trials. Some say it was me messing up the form, others say it was just a test of dedication for potential team members. After all this I believe myself and Imran basically collapsed after walking through our front doors.
Thursday: After several days of preseason training it was time to see if all the work had paid off with some of our very finest tennis players taking on Warwick Boat Club, including their star player Marcus Willis (@willbomb90). In case you didn’t know, he played Federer on centre court at Wimbledon-- so now you do. We lost a hard fought 5-3, but there was some excellent tennis on display. Massive shout out to Alice, Charlotte, and David for organising the event, and congrats to Warwick Boat Club. Thanks for having us and letting us use your bar. Pop tickets also came out!! Fantastic all of you who managed to nab the important weeks. Shout out to Warwick SU for stealing Maddie’s pop pass from her basket.
Friday saw Sports Day! We were told 160 people may turn up all at once, fortunately that didn’t happen, and it was a good day all round. We played some tennis games (one of you keen fresh was quick to point out it wasn’t actual tennis). Still not impressed with Kraven for making me play around the world. Some of us went to Kasbah -- Can confirm kasbah has been somewhat revamped; it certainly looks cleaner but who knows how long that will last...and yes there is a golden hand chair thing (very proud to have found that myself).
Saturday saw more preseason training, as those of you following our instagram will already know, but Mathew came out and produced an excellent tweener on camera followed by a naughty little drop shot again from Ben, true exhibition match stuff.
All in all it's been a good week, we're very excited for a new year and many new members. Come along to tasters, follow our social media, and if you can, definitely come along to week 1 POP it’ll be a big one and something everyone has to experience at least once (circle start 7pm @ Copper Rooms down stairs, but the exec will be at Terrace Bar from 6 if you want a chat).
As ever your exec.
